When was Marion County, TN Created?
Marion County was founded on November 20, 1817 from Cherokee lands. This county was named in honor of Francis Marion (1732–1795), the "Swamp Fox" of the American Revolutionary War. You can read a summary narrative history of the county in The Tennessee Encyclopedia of History and Culture.
